La Parada - a different bookstore
There is a library in the city of Barcelona that stands out by doing things differently: first of all they have installed themselves in the Mercat de l'Abaceria right between fruit and vegetable stands. Secondly, they have opted to mix trades: they sell books and paintings. What else are they doing different? They hold their book presentations Speaker's Corner - style every Saturday morning amongst herds of people with carts full of vegetables, and they do not miss opportunities of collaboration – Bacallaneria Ros, the cod stand opposite La Parada, is already contributing to the act.
All this is an initiative of common people immersed in a micro economy that allows them to survive and, above all, to do things differently right from the bottom. They distant themselves from the macroeconomic level, where the right thing to do would be to open another library like Barnes&Nobel. This is a clear example of citizens recovering control of their own fate and not handing it over to the government – in short, recovering control of the things that happen at the bottom. New models based on proximity enriching one's experience.

Time Out is a clear example of how to make (and share) things differently in an environment a priori hostile. "Not understandable", "won't work", "strange", "best sticking to what we know", these are some of the criticisms Dave Brubeck was confronted with in 1959 when he presented his album Time Out. The album contained a selection of compositions based upon time signatures unusual for jazz at that time. Soon after its release it becomes one of the most famous and most sold albums. On the album we can find the famous theme Take Five throughout in 5 / 4. Just recently Time Out celebrated its 50th anniversary.
